Inspection, Inspection, Inspection!

We can never understate the importance to potential clients of continued pipe support inspection plans. Recently identifying compromised metal jacketing on LP Steam Pipes during an inspection we recommended lagging removal and close access inspection of the clamps. Even we were surprised to find this!!

The outer section of the 3 Bolt Clamp (not under insulation) looks in top condition – this is all you would observe during a normal inspection. However seeing the compromised jacketing we agreed with the client to take the inspection a step further. Water ingress has saturated the insulation and the water has naturally migrated to the bottom section of the pipe. The material section loss over a long period of time to the clamp areas left sitting in water is clear. These clamps were close to imminent failure.
